About ERA
ERA Education Recruitment Agency has been established in order to assist schools/educational institutions in the recruitment of teachers and ancillary staff - secretaries, bursars, supervisors, caretakers. ERA aims to facilitate:
Third Level Education graduates (with or without the H. Dip. in Education) who wish to teach
Other suitably qualified personnel who wish to work in the educational system
Schools who have ongoing requirements for substitute, part-time and whole-time teachers as well as ancillary staff.
How we operate
We propose to establish a broad database of suitably qualified personnel who will register (at no cost) with us by completing the Curriculum Vitae details sought underneath (see CV grid) and sending the completed CV by email to ERA (instructions given at bottom of Grid)
As schools experience the need for temporary, part-time or whole-time staff, they will contact us by email, fax or telephone. Schools will then be furnished with the names of suitably qualified personnel. It will be a matter for schools/educational institutions to check references and subsequently inform ERA of the name of the person they wish to employ
Schools/educational institutions will pay the personnel they employ as a result of an introduction through ERA. They will also pay a fee to ERA for the service provided
Initially, the focus will be on providing a service for second level schools but eventually we hope to provide a service for primary schools and third level colleges

Frequently Asked Questions
How will ERA help me to get a teaching job?
When schools / educational institutions feel the need to contact ERA in order to find substitute or replacement teachers, we will forward the CVs of suitably qualified people from our database. Relevant qualifications, experience and proximity to the place of work will be factors in determining the CVs that are forwarded. It will then be a matter for the school or college to make contact with the people whose CVs have been forwarded, to arrange interviews and to appoint the person that is deemed most suitable for the post in question.
How much can I expect to be paid?
Assuming that the school or college can recoup costs from the
Department of Education and Science (DES), the DES approved
hourly rate from 01/07/2004 for qualified teachers (teachers who have a recognised primary degree and H. Dip. In Education of equivalent teaching qualification) is
€40.52. This rate may increase to
€41.65 per hour for longer term appointments.
The
hourly rate for graduates who do not have a teaching qualification is
€35.12.
Please note, however, that your prospective employer may not be in a position to recoup your salary from the DES. In that instance, before accepting an offer of a post you ought to establish how much your prospective employer proposes to pay you.
Having taken up a teaching post in a school, to whom should I look for assistance and advice?
You should look to the Principal or Deputy Principal, in the first instance, for assistance and advice. Ask for a copy of the Code of Discipline and have the support structures for new teachers explained to you. The Principal or Deputy Principal may then introduce you to teachers of your particular subjects who can give you further assistance and advice
Does ERA serve schools in the Dublin area only?
No. ERA serves schools nationwide. We also hope to establish overseas contacts.
