When schools / educational institutions feel the need to contact ERA in order to find substitute or replacement teachers, we will forward the CVs of suitably qualified people from our database. Relevant qualifications, experience and proximity to the place of work will be factors in determining the CVs that are forwarded. It will then be a matter for the school or college to make contact with the people whose CVs have been forwarded, to arrange interviews and to appoint the person that is deemed most suitable for the post in question.
Assuming that the school or college can recoup costs from the Department of Education and Science (DES), the DES approved hourly rate from 01/07/2004 for qualified teachers (teachers who have a recognised primary degree and H. Dip. In Education of equivalent teaching qualification) is €40.52. This rate may increase to €41.65 per hour for longer term appointments.
The hourly rate for graduates who do not have a teaching qualification is €35.12. Please note, however, that your prospective employer may not be in a position to recoup your salary from the DES. In that instance, before accepting an offer of a post you ought to establish how much your prospective employer proposes to pay you.
You should look to the Principal or Deputy Principal, in the first instance, for assistance and advice. Ask for a copy of the Code of Discipline and have the support structures for new teachers explained to you. The Principal or Deputy Principal may then introduce you to teachers of your particular subjects who can give you further assistance and advice
